IVR – Using the On-Rail Camera

To further increase your range of real-time recording possibilities, and inspired by the rail cameras widely used in concerts and live performances, we brought these concepts together and created the recording camera on the rails, called IVR On-Rail Camera.

This camera is extremely versatile, and can be used to create follow-up cinematics or flying cameras that provide a panoramic view. In the video below we can see one being used as a panoramic view.

The On-Rail Camera

To use the camera, just use it as a normal Unreal rail. That is, including points in its trajectory. All camera features will be configured automatically, and based on recording parameters, it has several features such as choosing the direction axis and changing the animation speed depending on the time required for a complete animation.

IVR Camera Parameters:

  1. Total Path Time – How many seconds to traverse the rail (affect velocity)
  2. Loop – Enable/Disable Looping
  3. Number of Laps – Inform the Actual number of Laps.
  4. Max Loop Laps – Inform the Actual expectation Laps.
  5. Follow Rail – Lock the Camera Direction on the Rail.
  6. Auto Start – Automatic Start Record on the Begin Play
  7. Auto Record – When stoped or animation end , the camera record the take video.
  8. Recording Mode – The type of the recording in the Low Level Camera.
  9. Follow Actor – Specify an Actor to Follow (Direction of the Camera View).

Normal Crane Parameters:

  1. Current Position – Current Position On-Rail.
  2. Lock Orientation – Same as Follow Rail.
  3. Show Rail – Show the Rail in Editor.
  4. Mesh Scale – Size of Rail in Editor.

The Total Time parameter

The most important aspect of using the camera on trails is the correct use of time. In most cases, when we need a camera of this type, it’s because we need to follow an event or give the footage an immersion aspect, as if we were there! in the face of the event!

It’s no wonder that, by the way, in live shows there is a camera on rails exclusively for the artist! It’s as if we were there, together with the artist!
